OCR and parser comparison

Bank statement OCR software and parsers, checked October 2026

The best bank statement OCR software depends on who will use it: developers usually want a per-statement API such as Veryfi or Google Document AI, lenders want verification from Ocrolus or Docsumo, and bookkeepers want an app that exports spreadsheets or accounting files, such as DocuClipper, Lido or Fulla Ledger. Fulla Ledger publishes this page and makes one of the nine tools. Every fact below comes from the vendor’s own pages, checked on 2026-10-22, with no affiliate links. Choose on four things: API or app, who reviews the rows, how long files are kept, and what the price counts.

Start with the job, not the brand.

Bank statement OCR tools split into APIs for developers, platforms for lenders and apps for bookkeepers. Four questions narrow the list quickly: do you need an API or an app, who checks the rows before they are used, how long may the vendor keep the files, and does the price count pages, statements or workflow steps.

Shortlists by job, from each vendor’s own pages, checked . Tools are named in no particular order.
If you needStart withWhy
An extraction API inside your own productBoth price per statement or document rather than per page, and return structured data for your own code. Veryfi adds a fraud score; Google runs inside your Google Cloud project.
Lending, underwriting and eligibility filesOcrolus adds its own human reviewers, document fraud analysis and income tools. Docsumo checks each statement against the pay stubs, tax returns and IDs in the same file.
Statements that arrive by email every monthParseur reads documents forwarded to a mailbox and sends rows to sheets and apps. Nanonets runs extraction as one step in a longer workflow with email and storage connectors.
Spreadsheets and accounting importsDocuClipper and Lido export QBO, QIF and other accounting files. Fulla Ledger exports XLSX and CSV, and OFX for QuickBooks Online and Xero, after you approve the rows.
The shortest time your files are keptGoogle processes online requests in memory. Parseur lets you set retention as low as 1 day. Fulla Ledger deletes the PDF, rows and exports 24 hours after the upload starts.
A person checks rows before they are usedDocsumo sends uncertain fields to a review queue. Lido previews every transaction and flags low-confidence fields. Fulla Ledger exports only rows you approve.

What bank statement OCR does, and where it fails.

OCR turns the image of a page into characters. A parser then decides which characters are a date, a description, an amount and a balance, and turns each transaction into a row. A statement downloaded from online banking usually has a text layer, so OCR is only needed for scans and photos. Parsing is needed for every statement, and that is where most errors start.

  • Descriptions that wrap onto a second line, which become an extra row or attach to the wrong transaction.
  • Amounts read into the wrong debit or credit column, which flips the sign.
  • Running balances, balance brought forward lines and page totals read as transactions.
  • Digits misread on blurred, skewed or low-resolution scans, such as an 8 read as a 3. Google recommends scans of at least 200 dpi, and 300 dpi or more for best results. Source
  • Page limits. Veryfi counts one document as up to 15 pages; longer files need a custom account. Source
  • Google’s Bank Statement Parser takes 15 pages per online request (30 with imageless mode) or 30 in a batch, lists English as its only language, and processes only the first statement in a file. Source

A worked example: one misread digit.

Fictional example. Harbor Lane Bakery and every number below are invented.

A September business checking statement opens at 4,210.55 and closes at 2,428.90. The scan is slightly blurred, and the OCR reads the 8 in 1,280.00 as a 3. Every other row is correct.

Gap0.0050.00

4,210.55 plus 2,275.75 minus 4,107.40 is 2,378.90, which is 50.00 short of the printed closing balance. A shortfall of exactly 50.00 points to a credit read 50.00 too low, a debit read 50.00 too high, or a missing 50.00 credit. A sign error shows as twice the amount: the 15.00 fee read as a credit would leave a 30.00 gap. A balance check cannot catch two errors that cancel out, a wrong date or a swapped description, so whatever tool you choose, someone still needs to look at the rows the checks flag against the page they came from.

Docsumo

Docsumo document processing platform. Both: a web app, with APIs and webhooks on every plan Source

Fits when

  • A loan or eligibility file mixes statements with pay stubs, W-2s, tax returns and IDs, and you want them split, classified and checked against each other. Source
  • Your security review needs SOC 2 Type 2, ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and HIPAA, and a choice of hosting region including the EU and UK. Source
  • You want to test at volume before buying: the 14-day trial covers up to 1,000 pages. Source

Check

  • No public price list: Business and Enterprise are quoted, and setup fees are charged on top.

  • It reads documents with large language model APIs from Anthropic and OpenAI, both listed as subprocessors.

DocuClipper

DocuClipper web app and API. Both: a web app, and an API with personal access tokens that runs a bank statement job and returns transactions as JSON or CSV Source

Fits when

  • You post to QuickBooks, Quicken or Xero and need QBO, QFX, OFX or QIF files as well as spreadsheets. Source
  • Statements arrive from many places: bulk upload, a project email address, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or Box folders, or the API. Source
  • Several people share one account: unlimited users on every plan, with API access from Starter. Source
  • Your procurement asks for a SOC 2 report: its security page states SOC 2 Type II and offers reports for vendor review. Source

Check

  • Paid accounts keep data while you subscribe. Delete statements yourself if you need a shorter window.
  • The entry plan covers 60 pages a month, about 12 five-page statements. Price your real monthly page count.

Fulla Ledger

Fulla Ledger web app and REST API. Both: a web app, and a REST API with a workspace API key at up to 60 requests a minute Source

  • Fulla does not publish a SOC 2 report.
  • No trial and no rollover of unused pages. The largest listed plan is 4,000 pages a month.

Google Document AI

Bank Statement Parser processor on Google Cloud. API: a pretrained Bank Statement Parser processor that you call from a Google Cloud project Source

Fits when

  • You want no stored copy: online requests are processed in memory, and Google says it does not use customer documents to train Document AI models. Source
  • Your security review needs Google Cloud controls: customer-managed encryption keys, VPC Service Controls, data residency, HIPAA and FedRAMP High. Source
  • Volume is uneven: you pay per document, with no monthly minimum on the pricing page. Source

Check

  • English only. Up to 15 pages per online request (30 with imageless mode) and 30 per batch request.
  • If one file holds several statements, only the first is processed and charged.
  • You need a Google Cloud project and your own code to send files and use the results.

  • No retention period is stated on the pages we read.

Nanonets

Nanonets bank statement converter and workflow platform. Both: a web converter and a REST API; plans add email and cloud storage connectors Source Source

Fits when

  • Statements are one step in a longer workflow: each step, such as extraction, classification, formatting or posting to an integration, runs as a block. Classification and ERP and database integrations come with Growth. Source
  • You need deployment control: Enterprise lists SOC 2 and HIPAA compliance, SSO, private cloud or on-premises deployment, and data residency in the US, EU or APAC. Source
  • Usage is uneven: credits are shared across the team and never expire. Source

Check

  • It prices block runs, not pages, so price a sample workflow before you commit.
  • Starter allows up to 3 users.

Ocrolus

Ocrolus lending platform. Both: API and dashboard, with integrations into loan origination systems Source

Fits when

  • Your decision needs fraud checks on the document itself: tampering analysis down to the pixel, with the reasons behind each flag. Source
  • You underwrite from statements: its bank statement income calculator flags missing statements, NSF and overdraft activity and large deposits. Source
  • You want people, not only models, on hard pages: its human reviewers work in SOC-compliant clean-room facilities. Source

Check

  • Pricing is not published; expect a sales conversation.
  • Built for lending decisions. The pages we read list no accounting file exports such as OFX or QBO.

Veryfi

Veryfi Bank Statements OCR API. API, with SDKs for development Source

Fits when

  • You want fraud signals with the data: edited regions, AI-generated pages and photos of screens are flagged page by page. Source
  • Your statements are long: billing is per document up to 15 pages, so a 12-page statement costs the same as a 2-page one. Source
  • Your security review needs SOC 2 Type 2; Veryfi also states HIPAA, GDPR and CCPA compliance. Source

Check

  • Starter has a $500 monthly minimum, so low volumes pay the minimum.
  • Documents over 15 pages need a custom account configuration.
  • Results come back as JSON; any spreadsheet or accounting file is yours to build.

How we checked.

Fulla Ledger makes one of the tools on this page. On 2026-10-22 we read each vendor’s own pricing, product, security and privacy pages, and recorded every fact with the page it came from. Nobody paid to be listed, and there are no affiliate links.

We did not buy plans or run statements through the other tools, so this page compares published terms and features, not extraction quality. Where a vendor’s page does not say something, we write “Not stated”; that is not a claim the feature is missing. Prices are in US dollars at monthly billing unless noted. We re-check these pages every month and update the checked date.

Questions people ask.

What is the best bank statement OCR software?

It depends on the job. From each vendor’s own pages: Veryfi and Google Document AI are APIs billed per statement; Ocrolus adds human reviewers and lending analytics; Docsumo checks statements against the rest of a loan file; DocuClipper and Lido export QBO and other accounting files; Parseur suits statements that arrive by email; Fulla Ledger makes you approve every row before export and deletes the PDF, rows and exports 24 hours after the upload starts. Fulla Ledger publishes this page, so check each fact against its source.

What is the best bank statement parser for developers?

Compare billing units and limits. Veryfi charges $0.25 per statement of up to 15 pages on Starter, with a $500 monthly minimum, and returns JSON with a fraud score. Google Document AI’s Bank Statement Parser charges $0.75 per document, reads English only, and takes up to 15 pages per online request (30 with imageless mode) or 30 in a batch. Docsumo and Ocrolus quote prices. DocuClipper, Parseur, Nanonets and Fulla Ledger also have APIs; Fulla’s puts a review and approval step before export.

Can bank statement OCR read scanned statements and phone photos?

Most tools here read scans. Veryfi, Ocrolus, Google Document AI and Nanonets accept image files as well as PDFs, and Lido, DocuClipper and Parseur describe photographed or image-based statements. Fulla Ledger reads scanned PDFs but not image files. Google recommends scans of at least 200 dpi, and 300 dpi or more for best results.

How accurate is bank statement OCR?

We did not test accuracy, and the percentages vendors publish are their own claims. Check every result against the statement: the opening balance plus credits minus debits must equal the printed closing balance. One misread digit, such as 1,280.00 read as 1,230.00, leaves a 50.00 gap. Errors that cancel out, wrong dates and wrong descriptions still need a look at the page.

Which tools keep statements for the shortest time?

Per their own pages: Google Document AI processes online requests in memory and typically deletes batch files right after processing, with a one-day failsafe. Fulla Ledger deletes the PDF, rows and exports 24 hours after the upload starts. Parseur lets you set retention as low as 1 day. DocuClipper keeps paid account data while you subscribe, and Docsumo as long as it needs to provide the service, until you delete it or the agreement ends. Veryfi offers custom retention on Growth. Lido and Ocrolus do not state a period on the pages we read.

How do bank statement OCR tools charge?

Four ways. By page allowance: DocuClipper, Parseur, Lido and Fulla Ledger. Per statement or document: Veryfi and Google Document AI, so long statements cost no more within their page limits. Per workflow step: Nanonets charges for each block a workflow runs. By quote: Docsumo and Ocrolus. Count your statements and pages in a normal month before comparing.

Why is Fulla Ledger on this list?

Fulla Ledger publishes this page and makes one of the tools. Tools are listed alphabetically, not ranked, and no vendor paid to appear. Several tools here read image files or export QBO files, which Fulla does not. Send corrections to support@fullaledgerbankstatements.com.
