Fulla turning a paper bank statement into a tidy OFX file on a sunlit desk

OFX export

Convert bank statement PDFs to OFX, checked row by row.

Upload a PDF statement, check each drafted transaction beside the page it came from, and download an OFX file ready to import into QuickBooks Online, Xero or another OFX importer.

No account needed for your first page. A free workspace adds 5 pages every 24 hours, no card required.

How it works

  1. Upload the statement PDF

Text, scanned, mixed and password-protected PDFs work. Add up to 10 files at once, each up to 50 MiB and 250 pages.

  2. Check and approve the rows

Select any row to see its source page and evidence box. Correct, split or merge rows, then approve the revision.

  3. Download OFX

Choose Download OFX next to CSV and XLSX. For a batch from the same account, download one Combined OFX file.

Watch the walkthrough.

Approve a reviewed bank statement in Fulla Ledger, download one OFX file, see what it contains, then import it into QuickBooks Online through Upload from file or into Xero through Import a Statement. Shown with a fictional sample statement.

Everything an importer needs, from rows you checked.

Fulla writes OFX 1.0.2, the widely imported SGML version, as a plain ASCII .ofx file with one statement for one account. Only the approved revision goes into the file, so the import contains the transactions you reviewed rather than an unchecked draft.

  • Posted date, signed amount and transaction type (credit or debit) for every approved row.
  • Payee name from the first 32 characters of the description, with the full description kept as the memo.
  • A stable transaction ID for each row, so importers that de-duplicate by transaction ID skip rows you already imported.
  • Statement start and end dates, the closing balance and its date, and the currency.
  • The account’s last four digits as the account ID when the statement shows them, and whether it is a bank or credit card statement.

Combine a batch of statements for one account.

Converting a year of monthly statements? Approve each one, then download a single Combined OFX from the batch review. Statements are combined only when they share the same last four digits, statement type and currency, and their transactions are merged in date order.

If a batch mixes accounts, Fulla refuses the combined file and tells you why, instead of blending two accounts into one import. Download those statements separately. Combined exports follow the same plan rules as combined CSV and XLSX.

Automate it with the API.

Developers can request OFX from the same approved revision with POST /api/v1/statements/convert?format=ofx, using a workspace API key. The file matches the one you would download from the review page.

What the OFX file is, and is not.

OFX export creates a file you import yourself. It is not a live connection to your accounting software and does not categorize transactions. Fulla does not create QFX or QBO (Web Connect) files, and we do not claim support for QuickBooks Desktop or Quicken imports. When you need a spreadsheet, the same approved rows are available as CSV or XLSX.
