How to download a Bank of America statement

First look for the issued statement in the account’s document area. If it is outside the available list, Bank of America has a separate statement-copy request process.

Step by step.

  1. Find the issued statement

Sign in through Bank of America’s official online banking and open the account’s Statements & Documents area. Select the required account and statement period, then open or download its PDF.

  2. Request an unavailable older copy

In Online Banking, use Statements & Documents under Accounts and the Request statements option. Follow the current bank instructions for the requested period and delivery method.

  3. Check the downloaded copy

Confirm the account, start and end dates, all pages and readable transaction amounts. Keep the bank-issued PDF before making an analysis copy.

A download and a copy request are different tasks

The normal document list is the place to look for a statement already available to you. An older-copy request is a separate action with its own delivery timing. Repeatedly refreshing the current statement view will not necessarily show a document that must first be requested.

Keep a collection log with three states: available, requested and received. Add the exact period beside each item. This prevents someone preparing the spreadsheet from treating a request confirmation as if the missing source document had already arrived.

Know which availability window applies

Bank of America’s digital banking FAQ says older copies can be requested for up to seven years. It describes electronic copies becoming available 24–36 hours after a request, with access for seven days. These are the bank’s stated request windows; check the live instructions for your account.

That short access window is different from the period printed on the statement and from your own recordkeeping needs. Save an authorized copy when it arrives, then verify that it opens locally. A link in an email is not the same thing as a downloaded, checked file.

Use the statement date without losing boundary days

The bank says checking, savings and card statements generally become available around their closing date, with some timing variation. Use the issued PDF’s printed dates to determine coverage. Do not substitute the day an email arrived or the day the browser saved the file.

Suppose a fictional request is for transactions through August 31, but the newest available statement ends August 24. Record the uncovered dates explicitly. A later statement or appropriate transaction record may be needed; changing the period label on the August file would hide the gap.

Keep supporting images and transactions in context

A check image can help investigate an individual payment, while a statement establishes activity over a period. Keep those evidence types identifiable. Do not add a check image to a spreadsheet as a second payment if the same payment already appears among the statement transactions.

When editable rows are needed, compare the exported transaction count, dates and signed amounts with the original PDF. Preserve the unchanged export before making a destination-specific import copy. Fulla creates reviewed CSV, XLSX, OFX and JSON output; it does not directly sync with Bank of America or an accounting ledger.

Questions about this article

Is a requested electronic statement available indefinitely?

Do not assume so. The bank publishes a limited access window for requested electronic copies. Save and check the authorized document when it is delivered.

Should I use a reconstructed spreadsheet as the bank statement?

Keep the original PDF as the source record. A spreadsheet is useful for analysis or a mapped import, but it should remain distinguishable from the bank-issued document.
